What this app is not
It is not a therapist, and it does not pretend to be one. Help Me Talk will not tell you whether your child has a speech disorder, it will not screen them, and it will not give you a diagnosis. Any app that offers to do those things from a phone is overselling.
What it does is the repetitive part: the daily practice, with feedback, in a form a child will sit through. If your child is seeing a speech-language pathologist, this is what you do between sessions. If you are on a waiting list, this is something useful to do while you wait.

Questions parents ask
- What age is Help Me Talk for?
- Roughly ages 2 to 10. The picture-based sentence and emotion boards work for toddlers who are not using words yet, and the sound practice suits children from about three upwards, once they can copy a sound on request.
- Does the app actually listen to my child?
- Yes. Your child says the word out loud and the app scores how close the pronunciation was, then shows whether to try again or move on. That feedback is the difference between practising and just tapping pictures.
- Is this a replacement for a speech therapist?
- No, and it is not designed to be. Help Me Talk does not diagnose anything. It is for the practice between sessions, or for families waiting for an assessment. If you are worried about your child’s speech, speak to your doctor or a speech-language pathologist.
- Which sounds does it cover?
- All 30 sounds in the app: every major English consonant, the short vowels, and the letters C, Q and X. Each one has a recorded lesson, mouth-position guidance and practice at word, phrase and sentence level.
- Is it on Android as well as iPhone?
- Yes. Help Me Talk is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play for Android phones and tablets.
- How much does it cost?
- The app is free to download and a subscription unlocks everything: $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year on the US App Store, with a free trial to start. Prices vary by country, and your store will show yours.
- Does one subscription cover my iPhone and iPad?
- Yes, as long as both are signed in to the same Apple ID — tap Restore Purchases on the second device. It does not extend to other family members’ Apple IDs, and Android is a separate purchase through Google Play. Practice history is stored on the device rather than in an account, so it does not move between devices.
- How long should we practise for?
- Five to ten minutes a day beats an hour once a week. Short, frequent, and stopped while your child is still enjoying it — that is the pattern that produces change.
- Does it work without an internet connection?
- Practice does. The lessons, word lists and picture boards are all on the device, and the app still listens and records takes offline — it just cannot show a pronunciation score, because the detailed scoring runs on a server. Scores come back as soon as you are online again.
